How do you eat an Elephant?

......One bite at a time!.

As i mentioned in this post a while ago (going on 3 months now) i have....er..... gifted myself the wonderful project of rebasing ALL MY BLOODY MINIS!!!!!!!. This post is happening first as a kind of progress report and second to encourage myself to push on and get it done!. I got out the based minis i have finished so far and took these (dark, dark) photos:

If you hold a torch to the screen and squint you may be able to make out the extent of the task. I am over two thirds of the way through having based 4 of the 6 regions of the made up setting i have built. It has to be said however im struggling with the scale of all this and motivating myself to push on is getting tougher!. I have left my fave nations for last so i hope that will help but i have another 4 or 5 of these draws full to do!!. I also have the urge to get some games played and background written so im hoping that will give me a quick break, i just hope i can motivate myself to get back into this!.

On a slightly different note i have treated myself to the following as a post birthday prezzie:
More minis, that'll help!!!

These are nice sets, each containing 158 minis from across Strelets Saxon and Viking ranges (with some new sculpts thrown in). I highly recommend them as a new convert to Strelets as they have tonnes of character and if you are looking for troops of this period or fantasy dark age types they work very well. check out the Plastic Soldier Review listings here and here (scroll down the text for links to all the minis in the set). And you can get the sets for £18 each here! (thats roughly 9 pence per mini!). Who fancies a new army for under £20?.

Just a quick post, all that remains is to welcome the brilliantly named Lost Egg to the wonky world of Wronghammer. Welcome sir!. I'm not sure if you blog but as always if you do feel free to put a link in the comments as we would all love to see what you have been up to!.

......Anyhow, back to the basing (sighs).....till next time......

  2. You have many elephants to eat my friend! Good luck
By the way those strelets big-boxes are a good thing ,believe me. I did not like at the beginning so many old-sprues again by me ,but they are also quite useful for conversions.

    1. Thanks Sceavcus, the minis inside are older sculpts but would be good for lots of projects. Have you thought of them for warriors of Rohan?.

    2. Rohan warriors are also on my list for this 2018 actually... And yes, many strelets saxons amd Vikings will join that army for sure! Even some normans with no kite shield , and also these Russian guys if I buy them again:

    3. I must say that Rohan riders are not so easy to create using historical minis, not because it is impossible, but because there are only a few good poses... which is a problem for the Big Secret Project :)
I intend to use Gothic cavalry, mainly Hät and Miniart, so that I have long haired riders with round shields.

    4. Good idea gothic warriors! Did you check also italeri guys? They could make the job

    5. All would make great riders. That's one reason I love fantasy gaming, no right and wrong just ideas to share to further inspire each other. You can follow your minds eye as to what you want to see.

    6. Speaking about "right" and "wrong" I found today a complete rulebook from Warhammer Fsntasy VI ed in a second hand flea market.. i could not avoid temptation, just 2 euro!!! Illustrations, pics and small stories are quite valuable still even despite GW stuff:)

    7. Yes, I forgot about Italeri Gothic riders, they're Ok too !!! I won't say anything against GW except for the prices, but the minis are wonderful !!! I have several armies, including Beastmen, I planned to use them as demons, before Dark Alliance released their Balrogs...

    8. I also really love the universe that Gw created for all us, it is really rich and an important inspiration for many projects (I have also many figures which will serve for 1:72 world) just all the story of changing rules every few years , sometimes too rigid ñ, and for sure the expensive prices and monopolist attitude was always a point of critic for them..
by the way I have also some demon-beast men-chaos ideas but maybe for 2020...I have to buy alliance balrogs as well :)

    9. I wont go into a GW rant, i do like to use some of their 28mm stuff in 20mm projects for bigger creatures. I just find they got too inclusive and less creative as time moved on.....

  3. Yes, we all want to see your big battles reports, so you need more big boxes full of minis ! By the way, I wish I buy the one related to Norman camp, nice figures inside I think.

    1. Thanks Phil, the Normans are very nice, i would have grabbed some but i got hold of a job lot of the Revell Normans a few years back so i now can't justify getting more!. Hopefully i will be playing a game or two soon so reports may follow!

    1. Cheers your Ducness, a large battle will be in the offing soon (hopefully). I can relate to the 'almost getting a game' syndrome, life has a habit of getting in the way don't it?!.

  5. Thanks for the warm welcome sir! :D

I've tried the whole blogging thing before but never really had enough time...I've struggled to complete any project for quite some time :(

I have been pouring over your rules and am somewhat tempted to get some minis at Salute this year to try them out, those Oathmark elves do look nice.

    1. You are very welcome sir!. The Oathmark range do look nice, ive not seen the elves yet but the gobs n' dwarves are cool.Very old school in a good way. I picked up some of the frostgrave Gnolls from the same manufacturer and they are nice minis so hopefully the oathmark range will follow suit.

    2. Never heard of Oathmark! Very nice figures indeed, though a bit big I'd imagine.

  6. I did not know about that, but I just searched in the net.It seems that Oathmark is the latest game rules sheet from Osprey and permits battles from some dozen men to several hundreds? Sounds good to me! I also only saw dwarves and gobs, where are those elves someone mentioned?

    1. The rules are due to be released later in the year. The Elves are on their FB page and have been on Beasts of War

    2. The oathmark rules are generating a growing buzz around the place, being osprey they will be worth a look when they come out I reckon. I have found the wargaming series to be full of great ideas to be mined!.
