It's all in my head (sadly)

So, January went rattling by, all creativity and fun, even a game or two!. Then February came along and...well...

....but first:

Nice.

So why no posts for the last few weeks?. Well my last post hinted I may be looking into some sci-fi gaming, I even went as far as ordering some 6mm tanks and gubbins from brigade models, the idea being to build a couple of forces and play some games using a hybrid G.W epic/ Dirtside rules I have been bodging. I was aiming to expand on my last posts ramblings to create a kind of battle as a corporate sponsored sport type thing with a league set up, a commentary team to add the narrative bits and  all that type of stuff. However I have hit the wall for now when it comes to painting them. I have never really painted 6mm minis and I am finding them a little boring if I'm honest. Hopefully I will be dragged back to them soon but for now they have sat unloved in the painting 'zone' (it's a corner of a table!) looking at me with a 'why don't you love us?' look about them.
This is far from the first time this has happened with a project, it's pretty common for me to just abandon a good idea, my brain tends to switch gears at random taking off to wholly different places on its own accord. At the moment my brain is lurching between:

1) The next battle in my
Campaign, everything is ready to go (except my lazy backside apparently).

2) A crazy idea for a elaborate and expansive multiplayer campaign (involving much map based political skulduggery) set in:
With my 12mm forces, this is pretty tempting but my record for seeing something through at the moment is holding me back somewhat!.

3) A whole new project involving my much abused 1/72 stuff in an unhinged fantasy setting based around a renaissance era war galley being sucked into a whirlpool somewhere and ending up in a freakishly odd world populated by mutant indigenous tribes, stranded cultists from the order of world builders, undead knights that believe they are in the afterlife and whatever other bobbins I can dream up, basically high fantasy skirmish stuff without the normal high fantasy trappings.

4) An attempt at some kind of podcast with this Rapscallion that I can't seem to put the technical side together very well for. Still sounds like fun but my lack of technical anything is holding it back.

So as you can see, lots of ideas as ever, just the normal state of too many things jostling for my attention to focus on one!. Hopefully I will have some kind of post about stuff I have actually done next time out.....

....'till next time....

The daring liberation of Deric Whattingley-Smithe, part 2

It feels ages since i posted the first part of this battle(you can find it  here  ), what with Christmas, Christmas and...oh yeah, Christmas happening things have rather gotten away from me. But do not fear an' that, here i am again to tell you all the stuff that went and happened........But first.....

Pearl Jam live at some dutch festival back in the day, i choose this because living right up to her name the Amazing Mrs Sprinks only went and got me two tickets to see this lot next year for Christmas!.

Right, on with the fisticuffs!.

To continue on with the report the forces of Crivenshire deployed onto the field, awaiting the Tuttinghammeshire advance:

On the left irregular horse, Regulars and some war Giants were ready to advance on Brickage.

A Heifer supported by Irregular foot watched over the Whattingley-Smithe farmsted.

The right was held by a mobile force of tanks supported by Light horse and Lancers ready to take the crossroads and support the troops at the pass.

Speaking of which the pass was under the watchful eye of the Crivenshire guns with some Irregular foot in support.

Two squads of Storm Badgers special action troopers were ranging ahead to protect Brickage.

At the break of dawns first light the forces of the northern invaders appeared ready to do their worst!.

A fast attack force of rabid Brute Hounds and not quite so rabid light horse made directly for Brickage, supported by the S.S. Saucy Jack!.

The rest of the force used the woods by the Kelpington Cross as a pivot, Whippets  loaded with Irregular foot troops belted towards the enemy center and the farmsted supported by the giant carnivorous goats of the Red riders and some deadly Lancers.
On the Cross itself Irregular horse and some light tanks prepare to attach the guns on the hill (gulp!).

All along the Crivenshire battle line the advance is called, the Southern army races to meet the foe!:

The Heifer moves up to guard the farm.
While on the left the irregular horse ride on while the Regulars and Giants head for the town.

 The Crivenshire guns roar....
Destroying the Tuttinghamme Irregular Horse before they can close the range!.
Battle is joined in the center as Tuttinghamme Irregulars disembark from their transports under fire!.

Brutal hand to hand combat is joined on both sides of the river as the fight for Brickage kicks off!.

A bitter fire fight in the center sees troops from both sides inflict heavy losses.
Over the river the Storm Badgers deal with the Brute Hounds!.
Crivenshire reserves are dropped at the Town gates to allow the giants and Regulars to push on.

The Lummoxshire Red riders bring shame to their kin, falling to mere southern irregular horse!!.
The situation at the midway point, Crivenshire hold the town, farm and pass, Tuttinghammeshire just hold the cross!.

Things turn further towards a Crivenshire victory as the Light horse hunt down the Stoats to take the Crossroads.
Menouvering in the center sees the northern forces begin to be encircled.

In a last ditched attempt to grab some objectives the S.S. Saucy Jack comes about and heads for the Pass, depositing its irregular passengers in a daring attack on the enemy guns!.

The Guns roar in reply, taking out an enemy Whippet....

...however the attacking airborne division destroy all but one of the guns!.
Over at Brickage the other pack of Brute hounds are taken care of!.

While the last of the Tutters armour is destroyed by the rampaging giants!.
The situation on the penultimate turn, Brickage is secured for Crivenshire, as is the farm. Light horse have the crossroads sewn up making three southern held objectives but only one detachment of guns now hold the pass.

The Giants continue to mop up in the center.
While a desperate final shooting phase sees the Tuttinghamme irregulars destroy the remaining Crivenshire cannon!.

While the S.S.Saucy Jack lumbers over to the crossroads under heavy fire from the Crivenshire center to blast the Southern light horse.........
...........leaving the air craft in control of the crossroads!.

Meanwhile the Storm Badgers restore calm to the town.
The Crivenshire Heifer remains where it began the battle, undamaged in control of the farm.

But despite all that the last gasp attack on the pass has left it in Tuttinghammeshire hands!.

The final positions.

So with two objectives each the game is a very bloody draw!. The area around Brickage remains in Tuttinhammeshire hands despite some very determined efforts by the local forces to wrestle control back for Crivenshire!.

Oh and for anyone wondering, Brickage is actually situated next to the site known as (The Amazing ones painting area of) Shitetippe:

....don't tell the locals!.

.....All that remains to do today is to welcome Mr Mark Flanagan to this mess of a blog, welcome Sir!. Please feel free to pop a quick hello in the comments, if you blog please pop a link in there too so we can all have a squiss........right, 'till next time.......

The daring liberation of Deric Whattingley-Smithe, part 1

Hello all!, this may be my last post before novelty sock day (or Christmas to those who are not male and aged 30+) so i will first say merry christmas and all that to the lot of you you reprobates!. Right, next order of business:

'The best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear' said some great thinker of our time of some sort.

Right thats the festive stuff done, on to the next battle in my current 2mmsteampunkn'shottestylecampaign:

You can catch up with the goings on so far by checking out pretty much all the posts i have written since the end of October. Last time out The invading Tuttinghammeshire forces battered the border patrols of Crivenshire in Phlemm Valley, gaining a foot hold in enemy territory:

Tuttinghammeshire now hold the area around Brickage!. A Crivenshire force moves against them!.

So as shown above Crivenshire hit back without delay sending a force against the invaders as they marched further into Crivenshire. The forces met near the river town of Brickage, an area of great tactical importance not just for the town itself and the links to the south and east within the surrounding area but also because of its most famous resident, one Deric Whattingley-Smithe.

The area in question.

The area contains 4 key features both sides were keen to grab from the hands of the enemy:
A; The market town of Brickage. Pearl of the river Shpitty.
B; The Kelpington cross, a junction linking the main byways between western Tuttinghamme and Crivenshire.
C; The farmsted of  the Whattingley-Smithe family, home of renowned mystic  Deric Whattingley-Smithe*
D; The pass of Browneway, road to Royal Cravenly.

These areas would be the objectives for the coming dust up.

The Forces

Tuttinghammeshire
The Tutters force is made up of survivors from Phlemm Valley and whatever other troops made it along behind them to join in the fun.
Give it a click if you want to read it.

All the Tuttinghammeshire irregular foot begin the battle either in the Whippets or the Beluga.

Crivenshire
The Crivenshire forces are a quickly raised defence force determined to oust the invaders before more can come. They are the total of the local troops able to make it to the battlefield before the invaders do.
Again, may need to give it a click.

Two units of irregular foote begin the battle in the Whippet.

Before the game i remembered to draw a FFS card for each force:

One Crivenshire trooper is such bad luck he will blight the force during the battle, maybe tripping over into a pike block, dropping a cannonball on his foot or even driving into something big, solid and tank wrecking!. Fossestershire have 'pepped' up their horse feed, meaning their steeds will move quicker during the game!.

So thats the situation going into the battle, next time out will be the game report proper.....

.....Oh and i got the fourth shire painted up:
Tremble before the might of Berkshire!.

......'till next time.

* Deric Whattingley-Smithe, the famous mystic bull of Brickage is well known as being able to look into the eyes of an individual and see their future. For the last 327 years he has been guiding all who call on him to a certain Knowledge of their destiny. Over the years he has changed size and markings a few times, even changing colour and once even changing sex**. Anyone can call at his keepers farm to enquire the future from  Derik, they need only pay 50 silver pieces then climb into the Bulls pen, grasp him by the horns and look deep into his eyes. They must then ask their question on which they would like the Bull to devine the right path for them loudly and clearly 3 times. If by the end of the third go an enraged Deric  has not gored them to death they can assume the path is right for them to go about whatever they were asking about, if not it was probably for the best anyway!.

** It has often been remarked by the locals that 'if i did'nt knows any better i'd say you was just swappin bulls each time the las' one popped on, but not Deric, ees proper magic an' no mistake int ee!'.
